this is very interesting hmm
THIS IS WHAT I’VE BEEN SUSPECTING.
Amon isn’t actually removing bending. He doesn’t have the power to do that. What he’s doing is blocking the chakra in a way that creates the illusion of the loss of bending.
I’ve always had the theory that if Amon really was able to somehow take away one’s bending (which I seriously doubt), that it would be a form of chi-blocking, but just for an extended amount of time. Long enough to the point of where the benders would believe that they lost their bending for good.
Though it is much better to say that instead of it being a chi-blocking technique where it literally takes away the bending, Amon is simply giving them the illusion that they can’t bend, messing with the way the chakra flows within them that makes it believable to them that they lost their bending, a long enough time to truly believe they cannot anymore like I said before.
As the Guru explained how the light chakra on the forehead worked (deals with insight, blocked by illusion), Aang had envisioned the four nations. They are one, but live as they are divided. The separation of the four bending elements are the same, all being a part of one whole. The same can be said for benders and nonbenders: regardless of their abilities, they are all human. Though the benders are being sought after by Amon, it’s possible that at some point during the illusion of losing their bending they will gain the insight that they are still the same person no matter what, releasing the chakra flow and allowing them to bend once more.
Interesting
Well there’s an idea.
