A darkly humorous Meme of Jeffrey Dahmer, a serial killer who killed 17 people. The crimes involved rape, dismemberment, necrophilia and cannibalism…
All very disturbing and chilling crimes.
This meme came after news reports of the last two weeks or so of cannibalism (or what some people humorously call ‘zombie-ism’).
Cannibalism is obviously a taboo crime. I cannot possibly fathom what could bring someone to commit this crime.
However, this crime seems to be committed almost fortnightly. From ‘we ran out of snacks’ to ‘mafia boss trying to send out a warning’ headlines, people seem to have their reasons for committing this heinous act. It happens more often than we think and it is also (tragically) well documented in history.
Let me begin the events over the past few weeks with a few main stories;

Left; Rudy Eugene. Right; Ronald Poppo
About a week ago, Rudy Eugene, thought to be under the influence of ‘bath salts’, chewed off the face of a homeless man, Ronald Poppo, in Miami.
Mr Poppo, 65, lost about 75% - 80% of his face (I’m not going to post the pic of what is left of his face, by the way. If you want to know, just Google!). By accident and with no warning whatsoever, I did see the aftermath of what is absent from Mr Poppo’s face. It’s pretty graphic.
What I did not understand when the news came out was, why the hell was this man able to attack Mr Poppo that way?
I assumed that Mr Poppo was dead and then he attacked him. When I paid more attention to the news, I realised that Mr Poppo was actually alive and that Rudy Eugene was shot dead because he wouldn’t stop gnawing at his face.
Mr Poppo was apparently asleep and couldn’t do anything when he was attacked the way he was. I suppose that explains his lack of resistance.
I think most people, including me, would fight off the attacker with all the power we got. I’d probably break Usain Bolt’s record… I would do whatever I could to not allow him to take a chunk out of my face.
Poor Mr Poppo has no face and doctors are trying to figure out what to do next, hopefully he can get a face transplant. Maybe some therapy (if he needs it) as well.
Rudy Eugene’s family have claimed that he was well behaved, a good guy etc (even though he has a history of some violence). I’m sure most people would find it hard to accept that their family member is capable of doing something like this.
What irks me most though is when people act like there are no signs. Rudy Eugene’s sign was his violent past. Of course people don’t assume their family members who exhibit violent traits in the past will start going around acting like a zombie. However, a violent past shouldn’t surprise anyone and it should really be used as a warning for more to come in the future. People need to be aware of these signs and do what they can about it.
It also seems that Rudy Eugene had a really bad reaction to the drugs officials claimed he had taken. If this drug is going to be linked with cannibalism and other serious crimes which harms other individuals, then tough action needs to be taken against it.
In other news…
This week, a man (pictured; he looks kind of creepy too!) killed and then ate parts of his victim. This man has no criminal record. His reason? Mass human sacrifices. From what I know so far, people are attempting to link it with voodoo.
Then there’s another guy who has the right to remain anonymous (I don’t know why!!!) who… committed similar crimes to his wife (she’s alive though, that’s a good thing, I guess!).
Another recent one; a self proclaimed ‘asexual’ got castrated and chose to serve his manly bits at a swanky banquet in Tokyo. Don’t click the link (unless you really have to), it contains graphic images.
Have you thrown up yet? I don’t want to post all of the cannibalism news from the past few weeks, that isn’t my exact intention (and I want to keep my lunch down thank you very much!).
But one last thing, a guy I’ll never forget (don’t Google because you’ll see the crime scene pics) is Issei Sagawa. Disgusting. This man is walking free and is celebrated in Japan. He couldn’t stand trial because he was unfit to stand trial. From looking at his interviews, you can tell that this guy is legitimately, insane. This man tried to attack a woman before his first and final victim, but no one thought anything of it. Signs people, SIGNS!
What do all these people have in common? I think a level of sanity deficiency.
This sort of news never fails to give me a sick feeling in my stomach. I could never understand this sort of crime and I suppose a number of things such as mental illness or plain curiosity (yes I said it) are reasons why people will commit them.
I mean, I’m still not sure why someone would go through life thinking about the taste of human flesh but eww… we’re all different. I wouldn’t however, celebrate this sort of diversity.
I don’t really class anyone who commits this crime as a ‘human’ anymore. A lot of cannibals don’t seem to have any remorse at all, so I suspect they’ve passed the sane mind stage… therefore I find it hard to class them as humans. It goes against nature (that is a debate that requires its own post, which I don’t feel like doing though). It’s a kick-start to devolution as well.
There are instances though when cannibalism is for pure survival, like the Andes Crash. What was vital to the survival of the survivors was the ice and also eating the remains of those who didn’t survive. In that situation I could possibly, probably, maybe sympathise because severe hunger and the need to survive, can make one delirious etc.
What I will struggle to understand though is when food sources are in abundance and one would kill and consume their victims. I guess that’s where Wendigo Psychosis comes into play? Either way, this is taboo and should remain that way.
Will the zombie apocalypse occur? Maybe, maybe not. I honestly don’t know and haven’t given it much thought. I think people who say that want to sensationalise and be dramatic… or just be darkly humorous about a tragic and regressive situation.
I end here.
